I have been a Sox fan for over 30 years, listening first with my dad and grandfather (God rest their Red Sox loving souls) and then really coming into my own as a fan during the '78 season. During that time I witnessed the remarkable grip "The Curse of the Bambino" had on us here in New England. I went upstairs and cried after Bucky Dent ripped my heart out...after the utter unbelievableness that was the '86 series...and after seeing Tim Wakefield walk mournfully off the mound in '03. I thought, like my dad and grandfather, I'd never live to see the Red Sox win the World Series.
Then 2004 came and changed all that. All of a sudden, the Red Sox weren't the perpetual also-rans anymore...they were the authors of the Greatest Comeback in Baseball History. As I heard Joe Buck say..."Red Sox fans have longed to hear it!" I wept. No matter what happens from here on out, I'll always have the Paris that was the 2004 season.
Does that mean I'm satisfied? Not on your life! I have a lot of living and a lot of baseball watching to do, and every year, as camps open and spring begins anew, I get the fever again, and now I can relive the words..."The Boston Red Sox are the World Champions!"
It doesn't always have to be next year anymore!!!
I love pets, politics, and sports (especially baseball and football). I'm an avid reader-just ordered Rep. Charles' Rangel's autobiography, and got a subscription to audible.com so I can listen to book downloads while I do my daily walks and workouts!
