I know it's really early in the season, and I'm certainly not celebrating or making plans. But, you have to admit, it's very nice to wake up to this in the morning papers:
East | W | L | Pct | GB | Home | Road | Last 10 | Streak |
Red Sox | 13 | 7 | .650 | 0 | 7-3 | 6-4 | 7-3 | Won 1 |
Orioles | 11 | 10 | .524 | 2.5 | 7-5 | 4-5 | 6-4 | Lost 3 |
Blue Jays | 10 | 10 | .500 | 3 | 5-5 | 5-5 | 4-6 | Won 2 |
Devil Rays | 9 | 12 | .429 | 4.5 | 5-6 | 4-6 | 5-5 | Lost 1 |
Yankees | 8 | 11 | .421 | 4.5 | 5-3 | 3-8 | 4-6 | Lost 5 |
Nice game by the Sox last night, although the lack of hitting against real ML starting pitching is still a concern IMO. But they absolutely devour the mediocre guys, which is what good teams are supposed to do.
Dice-K will get his second start against the Yankees in less than a week Friday, and in much less friendly territory...it's probably a good thing he doesn't speak much English yet, considering what those Yank fans will be spewing at him. Just remember, the Yankees had the second highest bid for his services, and wanted him badly, too. God knows they could have used him so far. Yesterday's rainout in the Bronx means that the Sox will be facing Andy Pettitte again on Friday, which is a drag. An even bigger drag is the prospect of that Yankee lineup teeing off on Tavarez on Sunday.
I'll be keeping one eye on the Yankee game tonight-they're starting their 20-year-old phenom Philip Hughes, and it will be interesting to see if he's really as all that as the Yankee organization and fans seem to think he is.
Speaking of rain, Sea Dogs rained out again in New Briton. There are now 10 doubleheaders on their schedule. Oy vey...
Beckett on the mound tonight! Let's go for the mini-sweep, Josh!
