It only makes sense that the perennially selfish, arrogant blowhard Deion Sanders would be able to put it all in perspective for us:
Sanders had a strong take on the Colts' decision to rest their starters against the Jets.
"They earned it. They're 14-0 without us. Without our recommendation," Sanders said.
Sanders said fans are mad, but they're just fans. "These guys are looking out for the journey. We're looking out for the sprint," Sanders said. He also quoted his mom: "A fan only blows when it's hot."
Of course it is fine to disrespect your fans. Why not? Who are they, after all? The Colts are a joke, losers even when they win, and this is exactly why-sports teams are NOTHING without their fan base. Every team in every professional league would do well to remember that once in a while (I will say one thing for the Red Sox-they may go too far in the other direction sometimes, but at least they understand which side their toast is buttered on). Athletes think the contest itself is what is important, but I got news for you, guys-it's *not*. By itself, the game means absolutely nothing. It is only important in that it provides entertaiment for the people who are watching-the FANS. If nobody is watching the games, who the hell cares who wins? Who is Peyton Manning if 80,000 people in the stands and millions more on TV are not watching? I'll tell you who he is: he is nobody. And if teams like the Colts continue to shit on their fans, well, there is a good chance the fans just won't be there to shit on anymore. Ask the Florida Marlins about that.
And for all the talk about "meaningless" regular season records and "meaningless" individual stats, I notice Jim Caldwell left Manning in there just long enough to get Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clarke their contract bonuses, er, 100th catches of the season. What?!?!? What if Manning had gone down making sure his receivers got more money!!!! Oh, the humanity!!!
The Colts are a pathetic, spineless franchise...and this will be true no matter how far they make it in the playoffs. What a fucking joke.
Yeah, it always amazes me when some clown who would probably have been lucky to be an elevator operator had he not been blessed with the opportunity to play a game for a living says something to the effect of "The fans aren't owed anything". Just incredibly dumb.

Deion Sanders would have been lucky not to end up dead on the streets because of a bad drug deal, frankly. The guy is just an enormous moron.
